The Lehman College cross country units participated in their annual Lightning Invitational Sunday morning at Van Cortlandt Park. On the women’s side, the Lightning placed ninth out of 12 participating schools in the 5k race, while Lehman’s men’s team placed seventh overall out of 12 participating schools in the 8k event.

 

Lehman’s best women’s effort on the day came from standout runner Dorothy Jean-Pierre, as she finished eighth overall in the meet by finishing with a time of 22:18.87. Sylvia Churchill put forth Lehman’s second-best showing on the morning, placing 31st overall in the meet with a time of 24:11.92

 

Finishing first in the annual race for the women was St. Joseph’s College of Long Island’s Brittany Carter, who completed the event with a time of 20:55.45 Coming in right behind her in second place was Queens College’s Stephane Peie, as she clocked in at 20:57.47. Purchase College’s Amelia Feurer finished in third with a time of 21:25.59.

 

St. Joseph’s College of Long Island took first place on the women’s side of the event as five of the team’s runners placed in the top 15. Purchase College finished in second place, while Pace University claimed third.

 

On the men’s side, Lehman’s proudest effort in the 8k event came from the consistent Irfan Anwar, as he finished 12th overall with a time of 29:44.18. Lehman’s second-best men’s effort came from standout James Mulligan who clocked in at 30:01.41 and finished 14th overall.

 

Finishing first in the annual race for the men was St. Thomas Aquinas College’s Elmer Eckert, as he completed the event with a time of 28:00.19 Coming in behind him in second place was Mercy College’s Thomas Cannariaro, as he clocked in at 28:36.51, while St. Joseph’s College’s Eric Haun finished in third place, completing the course with a time of 28:38.04.

 

St. Thomas Aquinas College boasted five of the top 11 finishers on the morning as their won the men’s event. St. Joseph’s College of Long Island took second place, and SUNY Maritime placed third overall.

 

The Lightning’s men’s and women’s cross country squads will return to action on Saturday, October 11, as they participate in the Albany Invitational, with the times of those meets to be announced.
