Members of the Lehman College Track and Field teams will be in attendance at the 30th annual Empire State Summer Games. The games will begin on July 23rd and conclude on July 27th at Binghamton University. On the women's side, Dorothy Jean-Pierre will represent New York City in the 1500 meters. Pierre will be looking to improve on last year's second place finish.
"I have learned a lot about the event over the last year,” she said. “I am stronger and I am confident about my ability to perform well.”
The New York City men's team will include Lightning men Jase Franklyn, All-American Pete Charles, and Irfan Anwar. Charles will be competing in the Long and Triple Jumps, Franklyn in the Shot Put and Anwar in the 5,000 meter competition. All will be in the state's version of the Olympic Games for the first time.
"This is going to be a great experience I am really looking forward to it," Anwar said.
Charles was also very upbeat about the opportunity to compete against some of the sport's premiere athletes.
"I just want to go up there compete and enjoy the company of the other athletes,” said Charles. “It's a chance to have some fun and get some good competition.”
