The Lehman College men's and women's swimming and diving teams returned the pool on Tuesday evening for their final meets for the month of December, as both squads welcomed the Mariners of USMMA King's Point to the APEX Aquatics Center. The Lightning men (1-5 Overall, 0-0 CUNYAC) fell to King's Point by a score of 144-84, while the Lehman women (3-5 Overall, 2-0 CUNYAC) had their three-meet winning streak snapped, falling to USMMA by a score of 129-94.
Despite the loss for Lehman's men's unit, the Lightning did put forth some tremendous performances and times. Joe Lara put together quite an evening, as he recorded a time of 3:07.52 in the 200 IM, a time of 1:10.96 in the 100 freestyle, and clocked in at 1:28.07 in the 100 Breaststroke competition. Also, it was Matthew Martinez swimming the 1000 freestyle in a time of 14:25.48, while Raymond Rodriguez completed the 1000 freestyle in a time of 17:24.70.
In the defeat for Lehman's women's unit, standout Judy Espinal, who received CUNYAC Swimmer of the Week honors two days ago, set a school record in the 50 freestyle, recording a time of 27.50 in that event. In addition, Espinal teamed with Luisa Garcia, Nadia Alie, and Basilisa Alonso to put forth a time of 2:09.81 in the 200 medley relay. Luisa Garcia also swam the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:16.01, and then 100 Backstroke in a time of 1:08.40.
Both squads will now break for the holidays before returning to action in the new year on January 11th where the teams will battle Baruch College at the APEX Aquatics Center. Meet-time for that one is scheduled for 6:00pm.
