Box Score

The Lehman College men’s basketball team (19-9 Overall, 9-4 CUNYAC) picked up a tremendous victory in the quarterfinal round of the ECAC Metro NY/NJ Tournament, defeating the Mariners of USMMA King’s Point (15-12 Overall, 10-4 Landmark) by a score of 76-63 Wednesday at the APEX Center in the Bronx.

Leading the way in the victory for Lehman was senior sharpshooter Scottie Nimmons as he scored a game-high 20 points while hitting six three-pointers in the process. Standout Duane Rhoden scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds in the victory, and center Alen Redzic contributed with 11 points and eight rebounds. Following the game, Head Coach Steven Schulman gave his thoughts on the victory.

“This team really played together tonight and went after it on both sides of the floor,” Schulman said. “We had a number of guys contributing, and that is what we like to see. We shot the ball well, and we controlled the boards the entire evening. Hopefully we’ll bring the momentum we have now into the semifinal round game with Montclair State University.”

Despite the loss for USMMA King’s Point, Denver Effland scored 14 points and Tom Izzo added 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Ryan Samuel also contributed in defeat by netting 10 points, dishing five assists, grabbing three rebounds and tallying three steals.

Lehman dominated on the glass in this game, out-rebounding the Mariners by a margin of 50-26. The Lightning also shot 46.6 percent for the game compared to just 38.5 percent for USMMA, and Lehman dished 16 assists to the Mariners’ 12.

With the victory, Lehman will return to action on Saturday afternoon to battle No. 1 seeded Montclair State University who defeated No. 8 seeded SUNY Maritime by a score of 79-67 earlier in the evening. Time of the game and venue for the contest is still pending and the game may be played at Lehman College. Be sure to check back at www.lehmanathletics.com for all the latest information on the game.
