Six days after the Lehman College Indoor Track and Field teams captured CUNYAC titles the Armory in upper Manhattan, members of the squad were back in action, competing in events on day one of the Eastern College Athletic Conference championships, which were held at Tufts University
Lehman's highlight performance of the day came from the consistent Pete Charles, as the standout added to his resume as one of the top track and field performers in Lehman history, as he won the triple jump event with a leap of 14.58. This latest accomplishment comes just six days after Charles was named the Most Valuable Performer at the CUNYAC championships this past Sunday. Following his performance, Head Coach Lesleigh Hogg gave his thoughts.
“Pete's jump today was a season-best for him, and that's encouraging to see,” Hogg said. “He's improving his jumps at the right time, and I feel that he definitely has a good chance of accomplishing special things at Nationals next week.”
In addition to Charles' standout performance, sensation Chianne Ashman, who played a big role in leading Lehman's women's indoor track and field unit to its seventh program title, qualified for the finals in the 55-Meter Dash by recording a time of 7.29 in the event. She will compete and attempt to win the event on the second and final day of the ECAC championships tomorrow.
Lauren Lourick was also back in action earlier today, as she participated in the triple jump, finishing seventh amongst 21 competitors with a jump of 11.50
