This past Friday evening, two student-athletes from Lehman College’s outdoor track and field teams, Pete Charles and Lauren Lourick, represented the Lightning at ECAC’s at Springfield College in Massachusetts.
Charles followed up his phenomenal showing in the 2009 CUNYAC Outdoor Track and Field championship meet by putting forth an equally impressive effort in the long jump event this past weekend, as captured the event with a leap of 6.97 meters. Charles finished ahead of 25 other competitors in the event.
“Pete excelled this season and it is of no surprise to me that he has been able to continue putting forth great performances as the stages become bigger,” Head Coach Lesleigh Hogg said. “I’m very pleased with the way he prepared for this event, and I truly believe that he is ready to put on a show at Nationals when he competes in the triple jump.”
Lauren Lourick finished seventh in the women’s triple jump with a leap of 11.36. 17 other standouts competed in the event.
“Lauren has accomplished so much at Lehman in a short period of time, and she has been an integral part of our track and field programs,” Hogg said. “I’m very proud of her attitude and her approach to these events, and I’m looking forward to seeing how she’ll fare in the triple jump at Nationals.”
This past spring, Lehman’s indoor track and field units both captured CUNYAC titles, and during outdoor season, the men took home a conference crown while the women’s squad finished in second place.
