LEHMAN SOFTBALL'S VANIA CADET NAMED CUNYAC SECOND TEAM ALL-STAR FOR 2009
qwq

The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its softball All-Stars for the 2009 season on Tuesday afternoon, and Lehman College was represented as catcher and infielder Vania Cadet was named a CUNYAC Second Team All-Star.

Cadet, a first-year Lightning player, put forth a tremendous inaugural season for her team. One of only three players to start in all 31 of Lehman College’s contests this season, the Washington Irving High School product posted a .329 batting average (27-for-82) while leading the team in hits with 27 and runs scored with 23, and she was second on the squad in total bases with 31. In addition, her .421 on-base percentage was second-best on the squad, and her .378 slugging percentage was good for third on the unit.

Defensively, Cadet served mostly as the team’s starting catcher, as she was responsible for minding the backstop. Her 102 putouts led the team, and she boasted a fielding percentage of .872.

Her finest performances of the season came in Lehman College’s doubleheader sweep of York College on the road back on April 17th. That pair of Lightning victories secured a spot in the CUNYAC playoffs for the team, and Cadet’s offensive contributions played a big role in the sweep as she finished a combined 6-for-9 in the two games with a double, a triple, eight runs scored, four RBI’s, and two walks. Head Coach Joanna Quirindongo is very proud of Cadet for receiving the honor.

“Vania was responsible for minding the backstop for us as a first year player and I feel as though she improved as the year moved along,” Quirindongo said. “She is a player that I feel can be the type of leader that we need moving forward, and I’m excited for her future.”
