Swimmers of the Week

The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners on Tuesday afternoon, and the Lehman College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were both represented. On the men’s side, standout Ivan Srdanovic was named Rookie of the Week, while Judy Espinal of the women’s squad was named Swimmer of the Week.

Srdanovic earned Rookie of the Week honors thanks to his tremendous efforts in the pool against Baruch College and Staten Island this past week. In the meet against the Bearcats at the APEX Aquatics Center back on January 11th, the New York, NY product claimed second place in the 1000 freestyle event with a time of 11:35.22 while also helping the 200 freestyle relay team finish in second place (he recorded a 23.93 split). Finally, he earned a third place finish in the 100 backstroke event with a time of 1:02.29.

In the meet against the Dolphins, the freshman recorded three second place finishes, as he posted a time of 1:01.36 in the 100 backstroke competition while completing the 500 freestyle event in 5:55.57 and recording a split time of 22.81 as part of the 200 freestyle relay team.

Yudelka Espinal, a veteran of the swimming and diving team, put forth a stellar week against the Bearcats and Dolphins. Against Baruch College, she earned three second place finishes. She completed the 50 freestyle in a time of 27.90, the 100 freestyle in a time of 1:01.89, and she also earned a time of 30.72 as part of the 200 medley relay team.

As impressive as her performances were against the Bearcats, the job she did against the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island was even more impressive, as she earned a first place finish in the 50 freestyle (27.63), a first place finish in the 100 freestyle (1:01.36), and she also helped the 200 free relay team pick up a victory in that event (she earned a 26.94 personal time).

The Lehman College swimming and diving teams will be back in action this evening as they travel to Jamaica, Queens to take on the Cardinals of York College in CUNYAC competition. Start-time for the meet is scheduled for 7:00pm.
