The 2010 CUNYAC men's and women's indoor track and field championships took place Sunday evening at the Armory Track and Field Center in Washington Heights, NY, On the women's side, the Lightning were looking for their third consecutive championship and eighth in 11 seasons, but it was the York College Cardinals claiming victory with 202 points on the night while the Lightning took second place with 113 points. The men's competition was a little bit tighter, with Lehman College falling just shy of claiming their third straight conference crown, as York College took the title by out-scoring the Lightning, 102-95.

“I'm extremely proud of the effort that our teams put forth this evening,” said Lehman College head coach Lesleigh Hogg following the announcement of the results. “We knew that the Cardinals of York College were going to pose a big threat coming into the meet, and I want to give a lot of credit to our teams as both of them gave it their all and never quit. We just came up short tonight.”

Despite the loss for the Lightning women, standout Dorothy Jean-Pierre took home a medal in the women's 1500 meter dash, finishing that event in an impressive time of 5:12.80. It was the fourth consecutive year at the CUNYAC championships that she won the 1500. Her teammate Michaelle Garcon finished right behind her, completing the event with a time of 5:14.86. In addition, Lehman College veteran Janina Browne put forth a strong effort in the weight throw, winning that event with a toss that totaled 13.80 meters - and that score tied the meet record for that event. Simonie Moore won the long jump with a leap of 5.02 meters

On the women's side, The City College of New York Beavers (55 points) and Medgar Evers Cougars (33 points) finished third and fourth, respectively.

The City College of New York took the bronze with 70 points, one ahead of Medgar Evers College, while Hunter College finished fifth with sixty points. Lehman College's Phillip Akogu was named the Most Valuable Performer of the Championship meet.

"I was definitely surprised to get the award tonight," said Akogu, a 6'0" junior from the Bronx. "I was  glad to be able to contribute to our team's overall score and we have to work harder for the Outdoor Championships to make up for those seven points," he said referring to the margin between the first place Cardinals and second place Lightning. "We needed eight."
