The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for men’s volleyball on Wednesday evening, and Lehman College standout Nate Martin was named Player of the Week for his outstanding contributions during the Lightning’s 3-0 week last week.
During Lehman College’s perfect 3-0 week which saw the team record three league victories over York College, Medgar Evers, and New York City College of Technology, the Carleton, Michigan product served as a pace-setter for his club. In the Lightning’s 3-1 triumph over York College, Martin recorded 18 kills and 20 digs. Then, in Lehman’s convincing three-set win over Medgar Evers, he added eight kills and 10 digs. Finally, against the Yellow Jackets, the outside hitter contributed 11 kills and four digs in a five-set win over City Tech. Lehman College head coach Wolfgang Lucena believes Martin was truly deserving of the honor.
“Nate Martin is a mature difference maker for our club,” Lucena said. “He is a guy who knows the game of volleyball and leads by example. His contributions have been pivotal for us this season, and I’m eager to see how he’ll finish up the regular season. Right now he is on a roll and it’s very fun to watch.”
Lehman College will return to action on Saturday afternoon as the team takes to the road to battle SUNY Maritime in non-conference action, with match-time scheduled for 1:00pm.
