SOFTBALL FALLS IN NON-CONFERENCE AFFAIR TO SUNY PURCHASE BY SCORE OF 16-6

Box Score

The Lehman College softball team (0-3 Overall, 0-0 CUNYAC) dropped a non-conference game to the SUNY Purchase Panthers by a score of 16-6 in five innings in Purchase, NY.

The Panthers plated four runs in the first inning and added three more in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead after two frames. SUNY Purchase would never look back after that, and after the Lightning scored three times in the top of the third, an eight-run bottom of the third inning for the Panthers put the game out of reach.

Lindsay Froman got the start for the Panthers and received the victory, hurling five innings of work and allowing six runs (all six earned) on five hits while walking three batters and striking out six. Lehman College starter Natalie Martinez took the loss as she pitched four innings and allowed 10 earned runs.

Offensively for SUNY Purchase, it was Melanie Culpepper pacing her squad by finishing 3-for-4 with three singles, four runs scored, two stolen bases and a run batted in. Meghan Lalonde finished 2-for-4 with two singles, a run scored and a run batted in. As a team, the Panthers recorded nine hits and drew five walks.

Despite the loss for the Lightning, it was standout Kelsey Ash putting forth a phenomenal afternoon at the dish, finishing 2-for-4 with a homerun, a walk, two runs scored, and four runs batted in. Samantha Baez finished 1-for-2 with two runs batted in, and Bethany Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

The Lightning will return to action on Saturday afternoon as the team will take on the College of St. Elizabeth's in a doubleheader at the South Field in the Bronx, with the first game scheduled for noon.
