The City University of Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for baseball on Friday morning, and Lehman College shortstop Jhon Comas Disla was named Player of the Week for his phenomenal contributions during games played between the period of Monday, March 15th and Sunday, March 21st.
Comas Disla proved to be an priceless offensive commodity for the Lightning, batting .571 in five games, as the team put forth a record of 3-2 last week with the shortstop in the lineup (the team was 3-3 overall). The Bronx resident's overall numbers were outstanding, as he went 12-21 with five doubles and two home runs while scoring eight runs and driving in five. He also had two stolen bases and had a five-game hitting streak to start the 2010 season. His best outing was a 4-5 showing versus Emerson College as the 5'10 standout had two doubles, three runs, one RBI and his two aforementioned steals. Following the announcement that he was given this honor, head coach John Foster gave his thoughts.
“Jhon is a young player who has done everything right for us so far,” Foster said. “He holds things down over there at shortstop and he is the kind of player that can change the complexion of a game either at the dish or with his glove in the field. I'm very happy with his work ethic so far, and there scary thing is that he's only going to improve.”
Lehman College will open up its conference portion of the schedule on Saturday afternoon as the Lightning battle the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island in a CUNYAC doubleheader at the South Field in the Bronx. The first game begins at 12:00pm.
