Box Score

The Lehman College men’s volleyball team (12-7 Overall, 8-3 CUNYAC) won their fourth consecutive match, defeating the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College (2-13 Overall, 2-10 CUNYAC) by scores of 30-23, 30-15 and 30-23 Monday evening at Brooklyn’s West Quad Gymnasium.

The Lightning were paced in the match by standout Nate Martin who put forth a phenomenal effort in a winning cause as he tallied match-highs in kills with 13 and digs with 21. RJ LeBlanc chipped in with eight kills and 10 digs, and Angel Fernandez added a match-high 28 assists. Aris Ducasse had six kills and six digs as well. Following the match, head coach Wolfgang Lucena gave his thoughts.

“We’re on a roll right now, and we seem to be entering each match with the thought that we’re going to win, and that’s the attitude you have to have as tournament time approaches,” Lucena said. “Hopefully we can keep things moving in the right direction tomorrow when we face CCNY.”

Despite the loss for Brooklyn College, Guillermo Melosevich had another good match, posting 18 assists and 10 digs on the night. David Choy added six kills. Auston Sumitro and Konstantin Batsura had double-digit digs, with 13 and 10 respectively.

The Lightning recorded 35 kills to only 21 for the Bulldogs, and Lehman College hit .177 on the evening while Brooklyn College hit - .020. The Lightning also had eight service aces to the Bulldogs’ four, and Lehman also had 31 assists to Brooklyn College’s 20.

Lehman will return to action on Tuesday evening as the Lightning travel to CCNY’s Nat Holman Gymnasium for a match with the Beavers, with start-time scheduled for 7:00pm.
