In their first official action of the 2010 season, the Lehman College men's soccer team (0-1 Overall, 0-0 CUNYAC), fell to SUNY Plattsburgh (1-0 overall, 0-0 SUNYAC) 5-0 on the first of two days of action at the Cardinal Classic on the campus of Plattsurgh State.
Five different Cardinal players tallied a goal as the SUNYAC's preseason No. 1 team dominated the action, outshooting Lehman 40 to 2.
Cardinal midfielder Mike Payne started the scoring when his header found its way past Lehman goalkeeper Marcos Coto-Batres at 10:20 of the opening half. Plattsurgh State's Chris Taylor then added to the score at the 18:02 mark on a direct shot off of a corner kick. Closing out the scoring in the first half was an unassisted goal from Cardinal forward Pat Shaughnessy.
Continued pressure out of the half by Plattsburgh resulted in their fourth goal, an unassisted tally for Pat Cadden.
The final scoring of the match came from Anis Makaren in the 79th minute.
By defeating Lehman, Plattsburgh State earned its 500th all-time program victory.
Lightning goalkeeper Coto-Batres finished the contest with 13 saves.
Lehman College will look to rebound on the second day of the tournament when they take on Skidmore College on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
