Women's Volleyball Falls to Ramapo in First Home Match of Season
Lightning Can't Sustain Second Set Momentum in Four Set Loss
Bookmark and Share

The Lehman College (0-2 overall, 0-0 CUNYAC) women’s volleyball team suffered its second consecutive defeat on Thursday night losing in four sets (7-25, 31-29, 12-25, 9-25) to visiting Ramapo College (3-0 overall, 0-0 NJAC) at the Apex in the Bronx.

Ramapo juniors Allison DiAngelo and Michelle Ferrari were stalwarts at the service line during the course of the first set for the Roadrunners.  Tied at 5-5, the Roadrunners ripped off runs of 11-0 and 9-0 sandwiched around two Lehman points to grab the early match advantage.  When Ferrari wasn’t working from the service line she was putting the ball past Lehman tallying seven kills in the set.

The second set, however, brought a change in demeanor from the Lightning.  Behind several sustained rallies, sprawling digs, enthusiastic play and six kills from Gerri Ann-Martin, the Lightning took the set in spirited fashion 31-29.

However, Lehman could not build on the momentum gained from its emotional second set win, instead committing one too many errors that allowed Ramapo to take control of the match.  Close early in the third set, the Roadrunners put together runs of five points, four points and five points on their way to a 25-12 winning margin.

A stirring Lehman comeback victory would not be in the cards as Ramapo jumped out to a commanding 10-0 lead in the fourth set on its way to the match victory.

Lehman returns to action on Saturday when it travels to York College to battle two CUNYAC opponents.  The day’s action begins at 9 a.m. versus New York City College of Technology and wraps up with a matinee versus the College of Staten Island at 1 p.m.
