QUEENS, N.Y. – The CUNY Athletic Conference today announced its Hospital for Special Surgery/Scholar-Athlete of the Month winners of the month of October, and Lehman's Ravnit Bhatia earned Honorable Mention. Bhatia is one of six Honorable Mention winners, behind the Scholar-Athlete of the Month, Samantha Wysokowski of the College of Staten Island.
Bhatia (Yonkers, N.Y./Clarkstown South) is a senior, carrying a 3.72 grade point average in biochemistry, who doubles as a member of the women's tennis team.
What is impressive about Bhatia is her balance between athletics and academics. She plays at flight two singles and flight one doubles for the Lightning. At those spots, she won four matches in October. Academically, the Macauley Honors College student has received a number of awards for her excellence in science and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.
A native of Kanpur, India, she immigrated to the United States in 2006, and is currently living in Yonkers, by way of West Nyack, N.Y. She is currently working towards medical school, possibly as early as 2013.
