10.4.08 | Women's Volleyball

The Lehman College women’s volleyball team (7-4 Overall, 3-2 CUNYAC) got back on track as they defeated the Bard College Raptors (5-4 Overall, 2-2 Skyline) by scores of 25-18, 25-14, 22-25, and 25-12 Saturday afternoon at the APEX Center. The victory snapped the Lightning’s two match losing streak.

 

Lehman was led by freshman Lisa Jagdeo in the victory, as she put forth a terrific all-around match with four kills to go along with 11 assists and five digs. Fellow freshman Gerri-Ann Martin also continued her phenomenal season for the Lightning as she tallied a match-high eight kills to go along with 10 digs and three service aces. Sophomore Lakeisha Gordon also chipped in with six kills, and Jillian Acevedo tallied a team-high 16 digs. Following the victory, Daniel Skilins was very impressed with his team’s effort.

10.4.08 | Women's Tennis

The Lehman College women’s tennis team had their two match winning streak on Friday afternoon as they fell to the Baruch College Bearcats by a score of 8-1 at the U.S. National Tennis Center in Queens. The Bearcats improved their record to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in CUNYAC, while visiting Lehman dropped to 3-7 overall and 3-2 in conference action.

 

The Bearcats got off to a fast start in the match, capturing all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Baruch’s Monika Maiellano and Alexandra Vamanu needed tie-breakers (8-8, 10-5) to defeat Lehman’s Evauna Neville and Aurora Peters. No. 2 doubles saw the Bearcats’ Irina Piskunova and Miriam Mkrtchyan down the Lightning’s duo of Gabriela Harewood and Mina Jeung 8-0, at No. 3 doubles, Lehman’s Amaia Liriano and Juyoung Kwon fell to Baruch’s Shalanda Graham and Maryiya Korobkova, 8-0.

10.2.08 | Men's Soccer

The Lehman College men’s soccer club team lost its final game of its exhibition season, falling to the New York City College of Technology Yellow Jackets by a score of 3-2 in double overtime Thursday afternoon at the South Field in the Bronx. With the loss, Lehman finished their club season 0-8.

 

Both teams had numerous chances to score early in the first half, but both squads were unable to score a goal as the contest remainded scoreless in the early stages. 12 minutes into the game, Lehman goaltender Timothy Hamisi fell to the ground after being kneed in the forehead by a Yellow Jackets player. Backup goalkeeper and team captain Ala “Jordan” Salhoobi came in and did a solid job, keeping Lehman in the game and giving the Lightning a chance to win.

Attention Lehman Lightning fans! The October 2008 edition of Lehman's athletics newsletter, "Lightning Strikes", is now available!

 

This month's edition of Lightning Strikes focuses on the formation of a Lehman College soccer club team and its aspirations to one day become a varsity sport at the college. The team was constructed over the summer and has participated in a number of exhibition contests with hopes of joining the CUNYAC a year from now.

10.1.08 | Men's Cross Country

This week on Lehman internet podcasting, fans can download and/or listen to the Lehman College athletic department's latest posting, which features an interview with men’s cross country standout, James Mulligan.

 

Sports Information Assistant Jason Greene sat down with Mulligan on Tuesday afternoon as the Lightning look forward to hosting their annual cross country meet, the Lehman Lightning Invitational, this Sunday at 10:00am at Van Cortlandt Park. In the interesting segment, the Bronx HS of Science product touches on a variety of topics, including his start in the sport of cross country as well as how he prepares for meets. He also gives her prediction for the season and states that he feels that the Lightning could take home a CUNYAC title in 2008.

10.1.08 | Women's Tennis
The Lehman College women’s tennis team (3-6 Overall, 3-1 CUNYAC) won for the third time this season as they defeated the College of Staten Island Dolphins (1-6 Overall, 0-2 CUNYAC) by a score of 6-3 Tuesday afternoon at the APEX Tennis Courts in the Bronx in a CUNYAC match.
 
The Lightning got off to a fast start, capturing all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Lehman’s standout combination of Evauna Neville and Aurora Peters defeated the Dolphins’ pair of Gabriella Villarruel and Yelena Rasporskaya by a score of 8-2. The Lightning claimed victory at No. 2 doubles in strong fashion as Gabriela Harewood and Natalee Smith defeated the Dolphins’ Karina Zenkova and Fabiana Iannuzzi by a score of 8-4. The Lightning also won the No. 3 doubles contest as Amaia Liriano and Mina Jeung defeated CSI’s duo of Qing Li and Nancy Almazo by a score of 8-6.

10.1.08 | Women's Volleyball

The Lehman College women’s volleyball team (6-4 Overall, 3-2 CUNYAC) suffered their toughest defeat of the season, falling to the City College of New York Beavers by scores of 6-25, 10-25, and 18-25 Tuesday evening at CCNY’s Nat Holman Gymnasium in New York, NY.

 

Leading the way for the Beavers was standout Floriana Garo, as she paced her squad throughout the evening, finishing with a match-high 13 kills to go along with five digs. Also, Jamie Edindjiklian contributed to the victory with seven kills, nine digs, and seven service aces, and setter Alexis Kinsman put forth a tremendous effort, tallying a match-high 29 digs.
