Box Score

The Lehman College soccer team (3-11 Overall, 3-4 CUNYAC) had their two-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday afternoon, falling to CUNYAC foe Brooklyn College  (4-6-2 Overall, 2-2-2 CUNYAC) by a score of 2-1 in a conference match played at the South Field in the Bronx.

Lehman College standout netminder Michael Hintze, who was coming off two consecutive shutouts, saw his streak of 108:01 without allowing a goal come to an end when Brooklyn’s Muhammad Mutawakkil blasted a shot past him at the 18:01 mark of the first half to give the Bridges an early 1-0 lead. Some intense back-and-forth play followed that score, with both teams looking to get the upper hand. Brooklyn would then add to its lead at the 40:55 mark of the contest when Adley Raymond took a pass from Cosimo Vilardo and put it in the net to up the Bridges’ lead to 2-0. That would be the score after 45 minutes of play.

The Lightning came out with a lot of intensity in the second half and eventually broke through for a goal at the 65:01 mark when the dependable Geovanny Arredonde slipped a ball past Brooklyn’s goaltender Azad Kafarov to pull Lehman College to within 2-1. That would be the end of the scoring on either side, though, as both squads would fail to net another score, and Brooklyn’s defense did a great job of holding off the Lightning attack in the waning minutes of the game.

For the contest, Kafarov made five stops, while Hintze stopped five in a losing effort. Brooklyn College recorded a total of 10 shots while the Lightning blasted 22. The Bridges committed 15 fouls in the game compared to seven for Lehman College.

The Lightning will now have a week off before returning to action next Wednesday evening against Berkeley College of New York in a non-conference game. Start time is scheduled for 5:00pm.
