The Lehman College women’s tennis team (7-6 Overall, 3-3 CUNYAC) defeated the College of St. Elizabeth College in a non-conference match by the score of 9-0 Monday afternoon at the APEX Tennis Courts in the Bronx. It was the Lightning’s fourth win in their last five tries.
The Lightning dominated doubles play to set the tone for the match. At No. 1 doubles, Lehman’s standout combination of Evauna Neville and Aurora Peters defeated St. Elizabeth’s Shanah Orie and Lisa. Giambrone by a score of 8-2. No. 2 doubles saw the Lightning’s pair of Natalee Smith and Ravnit Bhatia turn back the Eagles’ Amelia Joseph and Miwako Nishioka by the score 8-6. Finally, it was Lehman’s Heoe Eun Kwon and Gabrela Harewood downing St. Elizabeth’s Kim Christel and Yanick Pepe 9-7 in a hard-fought No. 3 doubles match.
When play switched over to singles, the Lightning continued to play well. At No. 1 singles, Neville defeated Orie in a walkover after Orie was unable to participate in the match due to a health issue. No. 2 singles saw Peters down Giambrone, 10-6. Harewood defeated Joseph 10-5 at No. 3 singles. No. 4 singles saw Smith turn back Nishieka, 10-6. At No. 5 singles, Kwon downed Christel 10-5, and finally, it was Bhatia defeating Pepe 10-8 at No. 6 singles.
The Lightning will return to play on Friday afternoon as Lehman College will battle the Brooklyn College Bridges in a CUNYAC match at the APEX Tennis Courts, with start time scheduled for 3:30pm.
