The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its men’s soccer All-Stars for the 2009 season early Tuesday afternoon, and the Lehman College soccer squad was well represented, as Lightning standouts Daniel Brentuo and Olavo De Paula were named Second-Team All Stars.
Brentuo put forth a phenomenal season for the Lightning, and he was a key reason why the team won six of its final nine contests and made an appearance in the 2009 CUNYAC tournament. The senior played and started in 17 of Lehman’s 18 contests, scoring five goals and tallying three assists while accumulating 13 points on the season. He also netted a pair of game-winning goals on the 2009 campaign.
Olavo De Paula, a freshman midfielder, also put forth a tremendous 2009 season for Lehman College. The Mount Saint Vernon High School product played and started in 16 of Lehman’s 18 contests this past season, netting a team-high six goals to go along with an assist and a game-winning goal. Following the announcement of the All-Star teams, Lehman College Head Coach Joe Andre’ commented on his pair of players receiving recognition.
The 2009 Lehman College soccer team surprised many people, as the unit began the season 0-9 before capturing six of their final nine games to close the season. The team will hope to build on the momentum of the strong finish to this season when it takes the practice field to prepare for the 2010 season this summer.
