Fall Sports

The Lehman College athletic department is now holding open tryouts for all of its fall sports. Are you interested in getting involved in a sport at the intercollegiate level? In about three weeks time, the 2010-2011 Lehman College athletic year will kick-off with five sports including men’s and women’s cross country, women’s volleyball, women’s tennis, and men’s soccer. Interested parties can learn more by contacting the head coaches at the bottom of this article.

There are many reasons for optimism as it pertains to Lehman’s fall squads. The women’s volleyball team is coming off an impressive 6-3 CUNYAC campaign which saw the unit advance to the semifinals of its conference tournament with a relatively young and hungry squad. This year’s team promises to be just as exciting as it looks to take another giant step towards winning a conference title.

The women’s tennis team went 12-7 overall in play last season, winning four of its final six regular season contests and qualifying for the CUNYAC playoffs. A fine combination of seasoned veterans and ambitious youngsters are expected to return to the fold this season and once again push for a playoff spot.

The men’s soccer team gained valuable experience last season bringing the program back to varsity status for the first time since the late 90’s. Earning a 5-4 conference record and winning five of its final six regular season contests, the squad qualified for the CUNYAC playoffs.  The Lehman College men’s soccer team is eager to get on the field and continue on its way to competing for the CUNYAC championship title this year.

Finally, the men’s and women’s cross country teams enter this season with one goal in mind: Championship. The women’s unit will be looking for its first CUNY crown since 2005, and the men’s team will be looking for its elusive first championship. Both teams have high expectations for the upcoming season.
