The Lehman College athletic department announced the hiring of its next softball head coach early Monday afternoon, and the candidate of choice is John Pisano.

From 1994 until present day, Pisano has served as the head coach of the New York Panthers, a travel team which is part of a non-profit organization which helps promote and develop aspiring softball players in the metropolitan area. During his time as the skipper of the Panthers, Pisano has helped numerous girls hone their mental and physical skills before seeing them advance to play collegiate ball.

In addition to his work with the Panthers, Pisano has been an integral member of the coaching staff for the Fontbonne Hall Academy Bonnies since 2000. From 2001-2004, he served as the Bonnies’ head coach, and from 2005 until present day, he has served as an assistant coach and a consultant. During his nine years at the high school, the club has won three Brooklyn championships.

Coach Pisano is also known for his tremendous relationship with softball coaches on every divisional level. During his 20-plus years involved in the game of softball, he has attended numerous ASA Gold National showcases, making contacts and getting his name recognized. Lehman College Athletic Director, Dr. Martin L. Zwiren, is very excited about the addition of Pisano to his staff.

“Coach Pisano’s extensive resume and passion for the game of softball are just two of the factors that propelled me to choose him as our next softball coach,” Zwiren explained. “In every stop during his time in softball, he has exemplified dedication and passion in doing the best that he could. I’m very glad to have him join our institution and I’m eager to see how he can help our softball program.”

Pisano also served as a member of the Girls Catholic High School Athletic Association from 2002-2005. He is very eager to get to work, and that was expressed shortly after he accepted the head softball position.

“It’s a privilege and honor to accept this position,” he said. “The college has a long history of educational achievements, for one, as well as a great staff and great facilities. I look forward to bringing an enthusiastic mentality to our softball program. Ideally, I’d like to take the knowledge that I’ve gained during my involvement with softball and apply it to the student-athletes that will be playing for Lehman. We’re going to work hard, we’re going to be dedicated, and hopefully, those sentiments pay off for us.”
