The Lehman College men’s and women’s cross country teams began their 2009 seasons by participating in the Vassar College Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The meet was held on the campus of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. The Lehman women scored 201 points and came in seventh place out of nine participating teams, while the men placed ninth out of 11 participating units as they scored 244 points.
The best performance for the Lehman women came from the consistent Dorothy Jean-Pierre who is expected to have another stellar season for the Lightning. She finished 24th overall the women’s 5K course, crossing the plane at 23:28. Lehman’s next two top finishers were Michaelle Garcon (she clocked in at 24:50 and finished 50th overall) and Luisa Garcia (she crossed the plane at 25:45 and finished 56th.)
The premiere performer for the men’s squad was Oscar Kamalu as he completed the men’s 6K course in 22:13 and finished 19th overall. The next fastest Lehman finisher was Leonel Heria as he finished 60th overall by clocking in at 25:15. Manuel Saldana finished 82nd with a time of 28:01.
The host school Vassar College won both the women’s and men’s competitions.
Both Lightning squads will return to action next Sunday as the teams will participate in the Baruch College Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
