Joseph Réal André Biography
Joseph Réal André is a former student-athlete at Lehman College who served as the Head Coach of last year's club soccer team and will be the skipper of the 2009 team in its first varsity season since the late 90's. Very experienced in the game of soccer and extremely familiar with the Lehman College program, André played for Lehman College for four years, from 1991-1994. Following his playing career, he stayed on with the squad as a volunteer assistant during the 1995 season.
In addition to his endeavors at Lehman College, the former Lightning standout also had a team in the cosmopolitan soccer league for a year. Also, he served as a coach for three years in the NCAA National Youth Sports Program, an institution that includes 225 colleges around the country. And, most recently from 2006-2007, the Lehman skipper served as a volunteer assistant for the soccer team at DeWitt Clinton High School. André played soccer at Chelsea High School before making his way to Lehman.
André worked diligently during the summer of 2008 to recruit and motivate members of the Lehman College soccer club in an attempt to revamp the soccer program and help it reach varsity status once again. The team competed in an exhibition season, playing eight games and getting great attendance in all of them. The dedication and sacrifice exemplified by coach André and those recruits propelled the Lightning into varsity status for 2009, and the team will hope to make some noise in the CUNY conference this season.
